värviline maailm

Fix "Värviline maailm" LP 1978
C60-11543-4

Thank you for all comments about Golubye Gitary. To prove you right I'll post record I find actually good. Fix is Estonian popular group, they have many hits and book about them was just published. I haven't read it, so no more information.
"Värviline maailm" is their first album and it features classic line-up. Over 10 years ago I read that Fix is supposed to have one great song, "Ulila". Fortunately I found LP from my parents' collection and started to love this song - real soviet soul, wonderful melody played on electric piano. Now many years later I'm listening to this song more critically and find that rhythm is too humppa and actually Silvi's vocals can be annoying, though she hasn't developed her very theatrical tone on this album yet. Her vocals ruin 4th track on album "Fire", which is instrumentally pretty neat and good for samplers too. Album starts with instrumental track, funk rock style, it translated as "Rough Road" on sleeve. It's a good one and it is rumored that break has been sampled by some American ug hiphop producer. A-side ends with interesting soviet disco track, it's made hilarious by unexpected and loud guitar solo. B-side is total waste of vinyl with bad country.
This record has at least once been sold as secret psych record on ebay, let me laugh for a moment... it is common record over here, don't pay too much. More Fix songs can be heard at sovietgroove blog.

I have started to love eesti music since that eclectic album :)

Martin, have you heard about "Back in the ESSR - From archives of estonian radio" released by Umblu? A great compilation IMO. It's made of different music styles but each track is good. There are several unreleased killer funk tracks.

Regarding "Back in the ESSR - From archives of estonian radio" CD... it could have been even better if they bothered to search for stereo tapes. Those which are recorded during 60s were mono of course but those 70s tracks were recorded in STEREO!! So why mono on this CD?

The "heavenly" sound of "Ulila" is made with celesta not e-piano. The keyboard player and leading male vocalist Evald Raidma also used prepared grand piano and modified Vermona organ
The loud "guitar solo" at the end of "After Birds" is actually made with EMS Synthi AKS classic synthesizer, owned by album producer Hannes Valdma.
